Some interesting discussion on mobile gaming.

I think a small 8" Windows 8.1 tablet with a controller dock (clamp style) is an ideal on the go gaming experience. Something like a Cherry Trail device would allow you to do light PC gaming and load up your Steam account with all of your PC games. This way you have access to the entire Windows/Steam ecosystem, you only need to buy one copy of a game, and you can still play it on a desktop with higher settings when you're not on the go.

I think Ian might be on to something with the increased low light performance with the IR system. Contrast based focus must lose signal in low light, IR laser could care less (within there stated distance). Low light selfies and food pictures might benefit haha

It's probably good for a "balanced" conversation, but Ian's constant Apple resistance became annoying. Just be happy for advancement in tech! I guess he is an Android user, and he also needs to balance Anand's Apple love. ;)

Does Brian no longer work at Anandtech?

Indeed, it's like Brian has been airbrushed from history. Very disturbing.

I saw it mentioned somewhere that he had been considering going back to grad school, but I'm not sure if that's the case or what the arrangement would be if it were.

Ian as a fellow Brit you haven't done us any favours. That was the campest "Hello *wave* ever!" :p

Why would any sane OEM want a 28nm non-Trigate Intel Atom chip in late 2015, when Atom is barely competitive at 22nm with Trigate against 28nm non-FinFET ARM?

Anything Rockhip/Intel puts out at 28nm in late 2015 will be eaten alive by ARM chips, at the same price point.

Anand, you used to be THE place on the net for no-BS tech commentary. But how can I take you seriously when you make off-the-cuff remarks about platforms that you clearly don't have much experience in? You discuss the new Metal API with Ian here and lament that there's no serious deep gaming on any mobile platform, and that Microsoft in particular is missing a golden opportunity. Have you ever played Halo Spartan Assault on a Windows Phone 8 device? Isn't that a deep game that rivals console gaming? I would even include Modern Warfare on this list. These games are by no means casual and have the graphics chops and storyline of a deep game.

Oh...and did he just say that Android is a better tablet OS than Windows 8.1? Where do these people get off saying this crap? Leave your fanboyism at home, bro. Anand, seriously. Android on tablets is nowhere near as polished looking as Windows 8.1
